Ratings G to PG-13	They can be excellent for stories that do not need a sex scene. They are a way to focus on plot and character.
Ratings R to NC-17	Hot and yummy.
AUs	Love them. The challenge of seeing how the Jedi can become Samurai or writing ST without spaceships can be immense.
ARs	These are some of my favorite things. I love my dark Lukes.
Crackfics	can be fun.
Porn	yum
Angst	useful, but can get redundant
Mush	ick

Romance	iffy. Men aren't romantic.
BDSM	YES. More, please.
Darkfics	Love, love, love them
Deathfics	Depends. Gratuitous death is tacky. plot advancing, character revealing death is a good thing.

femmeslash	iffy. Feels like I'm putting too much of my own reaction out for public consumption. Much like het.
Slashing a children's book/movie	it works for me.
Chanslash	If not inappropriate to the time and place, I have n problem. More than half of all 16 yos are sexually active as it is.
Explicit sex	sure
The importance of charactarization	as Waldo said 12 out of 10
OOCness	throws me right out of a fic. Legolas does not act like a 13 yo girl, he's 3000 years old.
Canon	vitally important
Fanon	useful for small details (kaf, sonic showers) can be a PITA when it takes over characterization

Supernatural	it can work
MPREG	I like with decent explanation
Wingfics	wqeird, yet entertaining (Wrote one, but it was a dream sequence)

Crossovers	can work or can just be silly

Incest	I'm a Luke/Leia shipper ftrom way back, and I write Simonslash.

Het pairings in a slash fic	as long as they aren't the fcus, I have no probblem with het couples appearing or even being the backdrop for the fic: "On their way to Leia and lando's wedding..." that sort of thng.
Plot	vital if more than 3 pages
PWPs	fun, but keep them short
WIPs	unavoidable, as all stories do this, but they should not be posted at this stage
LJ fics and communities	yes, please
Mailing lists	yes please
Big Name Fans	cool, and not nearly as scary as most folks think
Politics in a slash story	unavoidable in some fandoms, but if a real world fandom should not be obtrusive
Religion in a slash story	suitable for the characters is fine. The author preachng at the readers is not.
Wake up Gay	Can be amusing

Nah. We both value plot and worship what Asimov called "the little tin god of characterization."

We just have slightly different tastes in the sort of plot we like.
