Ren faire sales
Apr. 19th, 2016 02:55 pmAs far back as I can remember, I've wanted to be part of the Renaissance festival. SCA was all right, but ended up eating too much of my life and energy. But the RenFest was magic.
And that's part of the difference. SCA is for people who want to retreat into the fantasy as permanently as they can afford to do so. The Faire is about a little bit of magic to get you through the ordinary life. I have a post at more length in me on this.
This weekend, we sold:
3 hats
8 tarot readings
3 needlebooks
2 flower crowns
6 bath bombs
2 bath salts
1 plaque
2 herb vials
2 evil eye bracelets
1 box
The people come to the faire looking for a bit of magic and wonder.
Something they can experience while there (the tarot readings), perhaps a bit of something to take home as a souvenir.
They aren't looking for daily use tools (wands, altar pieces, clothing etc) as pagans and SCA folk are. They want something to hang up and look at and remember. A bottled fairy that glows in the dark every night, a flower crown, a Robin Hood hat. Maybe, a piece of jewelry to wear. On the upper end, they want a plaque with a saying on it, or a bit of stained glass or some Celtic knotwork.
And we have to tailor our goods to that.
I picked up some very valuable information at this faire. And there is every chance we'll be taking The Carpenter's Wyfe to the Kansas City RenFest this fall. One weekend only.
