The Feminist Twilight Drinking Game:
“When any of these rules appear, we shout the call-out, drink and/or blow a noisemaker in the air like we just don’t care! Or do nothing! Embrace your agency!
STALKER! Edward follows/stalks/”watches over” Bella (for her safety! of course!), or there is a
lingering shot of Edward’s WATCHFUL amber eyes, brimming full of bloodlust and hard-earned self-control.
AGENCY! Bella demonstrates her agency by standing up for what she wants, or whenever another woman in the film is there for her.
GASLIGHTING! Edward does not trust Bella’s own account of her life experiences and ever so generously offers his own explanation instead.
SPARKLES! Sparkles make an appearance.
SHARK! the horrific dialogue jumps the shark to the point wherecringing is an involuntary reflex.
ORDER! Edward orders Bella to do something rather than asking, proposing or discussing. We drink in mourning and in protest.”
The group dynamically added a few new rules:
CLUMSY! Clumsiness is substituted for characterization.
FREE ANNA! We want Anna Kendrick to be released from this awful movie so she can go do something better.
WIG! Whenever Jacob’s hair makes an appearance. (Sort of a protest against the fact that the role did not go to someone native.)
WHOOSH! Whenever anyone whooshes. (We were watching this with subtitles on because we werebeing loud; the subtitles were funny.)
TILT! Whenever James tilts his head to show that he is evil.
