Random geeking
Mar. 24th, 2015 05:25 pmWe were watching Inception last night. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Especially if you like heist movies.
And about 3/4 of the way through,
gabrielbelthir realizes that the team maps almost perfectly onto the Ligatos group.
Cobb is Nick. He's the guy who can get things done, but has his own demons that keep getting in the way. (Hey, first time I've ever been Leo!)
Saito is James, the guy running the whole operation. "I bought the airline. It seemed neater."
Eames is Val. Big and smarter than he looks and the muscle of the team.
Arthur is David. Meticulous, brilliant, precise, no imagination and always dapper.
Yusef is Steven. Quite the genius, but often overlooked.
Ariadne is Anthony, putting everything together and holding it together and making it work even when it's falling apart.
And Mal is Tanis, who has the potential to destroy everything with her obsession
And when Cobb rejects Mal and plunges even deeper into the Limbo to save Saito, it was a perfect Nick moment. Because Nick will always go down as far as he has to for James.
I don't think we've ever had quite so perfect a correspondence.
And I can see the influences on Inception. We've got some Dreamscape happening, a bit of MacGuyver and some Bond and the general post-apoc genre feel of the crumbling limbo.
Seriously, good movie.
