It's here!

Eight tales to give you chills on the long winter nights.

Folks, I'm proud of this anthology. We have some great stories in it, like Correll's "Bansidhe," a creepy Victorian tale and Rosick's terrifying "Rerun." They're all really excellent and cost me some sleep, and Gabriel not only nightmares but tears. (Gabriel is not a horror reader)

The stories, with a little bit about each:

Rerun: The young couple stumbles onto a creepy old motel, with somewhat more long-term results than usual. It's the one that gave me a sleepless night.

Hungry House: Heed the legends and don't buy the house that's too cheap. This story, or monologue rather, was good enough for me to violate my usual rule of "no present tense."

Sacrifices: In a place where almost no one leaves home, the price of returning may be higher than the prodigal likes

Closing in: Being snowbound is bad enough. Being snowbound with ghosts in the house is worse.

Where all light fades: Be careful bringing tribute to the dead. They may want to thank you personally.

Still House: Sometimes, there is no getting away from family legacies. Even when the legacy is murder.

Bloodhound: Dogs are our friends and protectors, against so much more than we know. This one left Gabriel a wreck.

Bansidhe: Love can transcend class barriers and distance. But other forces remain stronger.

Right now, if you buy through Inkstained Succubus, you can get 10$ off the cover price ($5 ebook, $12 paperback). And if you buy this with Winter Chills, the second volume, you get a 20% discount on Winter Chills.  Buy the Winter Cold set, it's the economical choice, and you get 16 great stories for $8.50.

Sounds of the Season:

If there is one song I loathe, it's Jingle Bells.
So let's get this foolishness out of our systems early, shall we?
The only versions of the song I own.

Because you should be metal enough to cut something like this at age 90.

Kitchen Witch Corner:

Baking season is upon us, and that means scads of cookies.
To make things easier, start with Mother Dough. This basic cookie dough will let you make six different kinds of cookies.

Mother Dough Recipe
Ingredients:

• 2 cups flour
• ½ tsp baking powder
• ¼ tsp salt
• pinch ground nutmeg
• 1 cup butter
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

Combine first four ingredients in a bowl. Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix in half the dry ingredients, then add what is remaining. Divide dough in half and wrap with plastic wrap until ready to use. This recipe makes enough for two batches of cookies, so we suggest that you always divide the dough in half and wrap each separately in plastic. Keep the other half refrigerated until you need it (it will keep in the refrigerator for up to four days).

"Good night. We'll be in touch,” Paul promised and hung up. Dan watched him start hunting airfare deals on the net.

Dan turned on his own computer. Anything they knew, they could use in the battle. He learned of the Great Old Ones, the Star Spawn and the Old Ones. He read of how the Great Old Ones were almost beyond the scope of the human mind, but the Old Ones could be killed by beheading.

“Well fuck.” Dan looked up. It was rare for Paul to swear. “We're gonna shave it close, Furball. The only thing I can get us comes in at two-seventeen.”

Dan opened another window and hastily searched for Boston's sunset time on December 22nd. “Double fuck,” he corrected. “The sun sets at four- fifteen. If the plane is on time, and if our luggage doesn't get lost and if traffic isn't awful, we might make it back to Arkham in time to not maul Cian but scandalize the neighbors by changing on the lawn.”

“I'm guessing we aren't checking any luggage,” Paul said. “We'll be fine, pup.”

“That's what you say. You haven't been doing the homework I have. These things aren't just immortal, they're so far beyond what we can comprehend, we'll go crazy before we try to fight. And that's just the lesser servants.” He was shaking where he sat. “We're in so far over our heads. How can three werewolves and a half-sidhe save the world?”

Paul came to him and drew him to his feet, holding him tightly. “We can. We will. We have to, babe.” He kissed Dan. “Your lips are cold.”

“I'm cold. And I'll never be warm until this is over.” Dan caught the glance Paul gave him. “Don't look at me like that. I'm perfectly sane. I'm not going to be the guy who, by the end of the legend, is yelling 'Ia! Ia! Cthulhu f'htagn' just before he blows his brains out.”

Paul kissed him again. “Let's see if I can warm you up some. We'll set the waterbed to a nice ninety and break out the comforter.”

“And of course, body heat.” Dan managed a smile.

Rules are the same as they ever were.

WL2-2015

Over the years, I have gotten many lovely things and sent out many things to many people that I hope helped or brought them some happiness. Thank you, all of you, for making this work.

This year:

1) I have an Amazon wishlist, as does everyone.

2) I need readers. I publish great books from many excellent authors, but nobody reads them. Horror, fantasy, science fiction. Lesbian, m/m, straight and no romance at all. Can you resist an all SF?F BDSM m/m anthology? Or Hansel and Gretel vs a Wendigo? Or a story of lesbian elves trying to take their city? All Inkstained Succubus books are available on Amazon, and on Square.

2a) I need reviewers. Drop me a line and I will send a book (clarification edit: Ebook, in .pdf, .mobi or .epub). You put up an honest review at Amazon and GoodReads. Reviews are what get books in front of shoppers' eyes.

3) My business is in need of several larger items. A band saw. A better display. A grid wall and peg hooks. A baffled microphone, sound proofing, mixing software. A gift card to Sears, Amazon or to an online office store would help. A paypal donation to inkstainedsuccubus @ gmail works. Or simply buy something from the Etsy shop for someone special, and know the money will go toward it.

4) I don't need much personally. But I do enjoy my BPAL. If you have unloved imps or bottles, I will give them a home.

5) Fan art. Oh my. I would love fan art from any of my books (and I've given out many here over the years), especially the Nikolai books

6) Folks to join my friends list here, or tumblr or pinterest (also valarltd), or at Facebook, Angelia Sparrow

7) Fannish care package. I'm multifannish. Star trek (original), Star wars, X-Men, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, Brimstone, Simon & Simon, Sentinel, A-Team (TV), Harry Potter, Sherlock. Dr Who (in older incarnations, up through 5, my kids like 9-12)

8) Give back. Any way you can. Project Linus is one of my favorites, as is It Gets Better.

9) Be good to yourself.
