A sad goodbye to Richard Matheson, age 87. Sleep well, and let your typing fingers rest.

The Supreme Court is FULL of Fail.

They gutted the Voting Rights Act, just in time for a lot of bad legislation to be shoved through for midterm elections!

And the sexual harassment ruling is limited to direct supervisors. Apparently in their reality peer-to-peer harassment isn't a thing.

And remaining silent may be used to infer guilt.

Oh Tennessee:

Complaining about water quality is terrorism.

And let's see if we can't whitewash the history books just a little more. We mustn't tell children the Founders were slave holders and we have to make Jefferson Davis the equivalent of Abraham Lincoln. And "No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership." IOW, who cares what happened to your ancestors? You're still less than 15% of the population. Sit down and let real people talk.

And Arizona wants a loyalty oath that prohibits atheists from graduating high school.

And Texas is trying to ban all abortions past the 20th week. This is when they should be the least controversial. At this point, abortions are primarily done because of life-threatening danger or massive birth defects. Also trying to shut down 32 out of 47 family planning clinics, greatly reducing the access to contraception. For a take on it, here. Texas is also one of those fun states that allows a rapist to sue for visitation if his victim carries to term.

On the positive side, Exodus is closing. And Alan Chambers has apologized to those harmed by it.

Last year, Canadian astronomer Phillip Gregory announced discovery of three potentially habitable planets. Now European astronomers back him up.

This is probably the only thing I'll post about the whole Paula Deen thing.

So, I write a dark future series where the US has disunited. In the Confederated States, blacks are below being second class citizens. They are actively denied work, money and basic needs. They are erased from all media. And the Hamite Revolution Front is fighting this.

At one point, the Hamites make such a nuisance of themselves that my main character is sent to commit genocide. With full resources at his command, he wipes out all 2 million black inhabitants of Atlanta.
He executes the leaders on live television, dressed as a black-winged angel to invoke divine authority, using a device that lets him kill by simply tapping the forehead.

There are street parties and celebrations, people going out at night and enjoying the safe, clean city. This too is played up in the media.

Some of my first readers reacted with horror. "People won't be having fireworks and barbecues and street dances. They'll be revolting against the government that would do this."

I look at the defenders of Paula Deen and know I'm right. These are the people who would be out there ORGANIZING the street parties, and late night concerts in the park. They'd be congratulating themselves on how much nicer their city is now and how the other cities should follow their lead and make it a truly Christian (that word can be read "white") country again.
