You have biked 267 miles.
You have passed Great Road.
It is 5 miles to the next landmark.
You have 191 miles to reach Rivendell.

They made their way slowly and cautiously round the south-western slopes of the hill, and came in a little while to the edge of the Road. There was no sign of the Riders. But even as they were hurrying across they heard far away two cries: a cold voice calling and a cold voice answering. Trembling they sprang forward, and made for the thickets that lay ahead.

My goal: reach Rivendell before Mabon. That'll be just about 6 mo trying to get there.

And so, with a great deal of preparation, and not a little trepidation, we were off again. This time we were bound for some of the most hostile climates know to man, with gear that was most kindly described as experimental. Edward had a great many more descriptions, none of which are printable.
--From the Journal of Charles Doyle, secretary to Lord Withycombe.

“Charles!”

Charlie dropped the mittens he was packing and ran for Edward's room. His lover very seldom reached that particular volume and tone without the presence of Sarah Brown. Something dire indeed was happening.

Edward had lain down for a nap after the exertion of shopping and packing and Charlie had packed in a desperate frenzy. They were scheduled to depart the next day and Edward had only just felt motivated enough to shop. Charlie suspected he was trying to thwart the expedition without it appearing to be his doing.

“Yes?” he asked, skidding to a halt in Edward's doorway.

“I can't find a blessed thing. Where is my pipe? Where are my shoes, for pity's sake?”

Charlie swallowed hard. “I probably packed them.”

“You packed my shoes?”

“Sorry. I packed everything I could lay my hands on. If you hear muffled thumps from the baggage, it's probably Molly so let her out.”

Edward burst out laughing and swept Charlie into his arms. “Have we been so remiss that you're in such a tizzy?”

“We leave tomorrow, in case you hadn't noticed, and that right early. I want us ready to leave by supper time.” Charlie stole a quick kiss.

“I still have a bit of Miss Brown's money left. Shall we indulge ourselves after supper?”

“Splendid idea. What do you have in mind?”

“First, we'll see what Molly has ready for supper. Then, I hear there is a pansy show in town. I think it will do us good, if we are to spend the next weeks in the company of Nigel and the good professor, to enjoy some very pretty men.”

Charlie looked at him oddly then relaxed. Edward was only suggesting a show, not a joint brothel trip. He would have to watch and make sure it didn't become such. He was tired of sharing.“A last civilized pleasure before daring the frozen wilds?” he asked.

Edward nodded. “You haven't packed our formalwear, have you my dear?”

Charlie grinned. “I figured we could do without it. Unless, of course, we have to blend in with a flock of penguins.”

“Wrong pole, sweetness.”

“Really?” Charlie rubbed himself a little closer and slid his hand over Edward's reviving erection. “Feels like the perfectly right one to me.”

To understand this story, you have to know I have a satellite radio in the truck and listen to the news off OutQ, the QUILTBAG channel.

So, Oli is riding along with me. I'm listening to the news.
There's an article about gay marriage, people fighting it and the bans on it.
After the news, I turn it back to music, as neither The Morning Jolt nor Frank DiCaro is kid-safe (sometimes not Mom-safe even).

She's sitting quietly and looking puzzled. Then she asks, "Why would someone want to ban same-sex marriage? Why don't they just accept people for who they are?"

I had a very quiet YES! moment, and then explained that some people believed that gay wasn't something people are, just something they do, and that they thought it was wrong and people should stop doing it. So, to make people stop, they like to make laws that punish people for doing gay things. I also added that most people's opposition was based mostly on going "Ewww" when they thought of kissing someone of the same sex.
