This is from Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, which is a Gift of the Magi kinda tale. Emmet does odd jobs and his mom takes in washing. They both decide to enter a talent show. Ma hocks Emmet's tool chest to buy material for a dress and Emmet puts a hole in Ma's washtub to make a bass. Wackiness ensues.
