40) Ellora's Cavemen: Flavors of Ecstasy III. All right, I had one of the 6 stories in here. But I read all the others. It was not to my taste. Three contemporaries, a political thriller and a futuristic shifter piece. All het. And three of them nothing but extended sex scenes. Babe, if I'm reading 25+ pages of your short story? I want a plot.

41) Queer Dimensions. James Rasmussen. A collection of queer SF, GLB&T characters. Some of the stories grabbed me right off. Some required some warming up. Some just left me cold. In some the sex was important. In others it was taken for granted (a world that had evolved past men and reproduced via pods on bushes). Excellent, excellent. One story had poor editing, but the rest were impeccable.

42) Candyman. Nicole Austen. Stopry of a vampire who loses his love and waits for her to be reincarnated. Fairly standard stuff, but great description. I think a book about the vampire WWII flying squadron that he belonged to would be much more interesting.

Movies for 2009

P/f is whether the movie passes the Bechdel Test. There must be 1) Two female characters 2) who talk to each other, 3) about something besides a man.

Passing doesn't make a good movie or a feminist one. Failing doesn't mean a bad movie. I find this an interesting measure of roles for women.

35) Dracula Dead and Loving it. (rewatch) Mel Brooks spoof of the Dracula legend. Peter McNicol steals the movie entirely as Renfield. Funnier than I remembered. (f,3)

36) Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Vampires hold the werewolves in thrall. Shot in an almost black and white look without the B&W aesthetic. Felt rather derivative of a lot of current book, but hot naked man at several points. Meh. (f, 2)

37) Final Destination. A high school student has a flash and saves 6 people off an airliner that explodes. They all proceed to die in hideous ways. Interesting idea of cheating death and how he always gets revenge. Although I kept hearing Christopher Lee groaning about "Another near-Rincewind experience." (f, 3)

Obi took a spill last week and hurt his back. He's taking ibuprofin and using a heating pad. Dr's orders, since he still wasn't feeling better. While we were at the drs office, we got him shot for flu and Hamthrax. 3 plague rats down, 2 to go. Also saw synnamontwist and his wife.

We should sacrifice a goat and then cook and eat it. My religion is all about the sacred BBQ.

Fairy is gone. She's moved to El Paso to live there until her fiance comes back from overseas. I lost one of my extra kids. Bun and I took her out for dinner, since she is Bun's oldest friend.
