valarltd: (I seem to have died)
It's been a long time since I've paid to go to a con.
That said, Hypericon was SO worth it.

Friday:
I left about noon. (I had PACKED my wallet)
Drove out and picked up [livejournal.com profile] haplo9000.

We had lunch at Danvers' Roast beef. very good stuff.

We hit Aldi's on the way out of town. He'd never been to one. I didn't know you could get hummus at Aldi's. But carrots and apples and strawberries and peaches and hummus and rice-cakes later, we hit the road for Nashville. (In fairness, we bought ham and turkey and roast beef and bread as well. Bear this in mind)

We paused for gas and finally got rolling.

The Days Inn is right on the freeway, but I couldn't remember WHICH freeway, since I haven't been to Nashville in about 2 years.

We got there about 5ish. Which gave me a little time to work in the Dealers' room. I put out books, and did most of my actual selling that evening.

I elevator-pitched Alive on the Inside to Apex and they say "Send it!"

We went to opening ceremonies. I did my full Angelina Calamity get-up, slouched against a wall and sneered for the camera.

Afterward, I Spawn-sat while [livejournal.com profile] reannon, [livejournal.com profile] saraphina_marie (wisest woman in Europe with a wicked pack of cards and a bad head cold), et al went out for dinner. Spawn had a great time, but learned Ms. Angelia is kinda stern. We went swimming then came back, showered and had sandwiches and pretzels with hummus (did I mention the canister of pretzels? over 2 lbs)
We watched TV and visited. He found it fascinating that my parents were divorced too.

I made him go to bed about 11, although his mum wasn't back yet. "Go to sleep. I'm tired."

Sat:
I woke very early, showered, dressed and shut off my alarm before it could wake anyone. I did a vaguely steampunk look of jeans and vest over my Nikolai shirt, with a pocketwatch.
I fetched [livejournal.com profile] haplo9000 and we had breakfast. I opened the dealer booth.

I mostly stayed at the booth, save for visiting the Society of Zombie Enthusiasts and cornering Brian Smith and Brian Keene (yes, THE Brian Keene) and asking nosy questions about Leisure books. Should Apex refuse, we go to Leisure-Kensington-Tor, in that order.

And I saw a T shirt I HAVE to get for [livejournal.com profile] hopeful_dark. It looks like this. I want the Captain Harkonnen Spice Rum myself.

After the Dealer's room closed, I went with [livejournal.com profile] reannon for (im)moral support on her Creating Characters panel. Then we dressed for the evening.

The ladies looked lovely, and I was a one-eyed steampunk lesbian.
It worked.

There were about three really happening parties. Somehow, I found myself talking to Brian Keene, Marcus Broaddus and Stephen Shrewsbury. Got some brilliant advice:
1) When you're submitting, start at the top and work down. Send it to Tor. Send it to Playboy.
2) As porn goes, so goes publishing. The 16-25 crowd are reading on their Kindles and iPhones.
3) PoD is the wave of the future.
4) There is room for a traditional voodoo zombie among the walking dead.

The Aradani party was loud and hot and wild. I danced some and overheated.

The band, Circle of Signs, was really loud. Best experienced from well down the hall.

There was a party on the roof, with hookahs and Turkish delight (the pistachio flavored is fabulous) and baklava and Arabic cookies. There were two hookahs going, one with strawberry tobacco and one with grape. I LOVED the strawberry. It drew cool and sweet. Fire, glass and water, lovely dangerous thing to pass around the circle.

I crashed just before 2 since I had opening shift.

Sunday:

Up early, breakfast.
Opened the booth and sold a copy of Nikolai and 2 copies of Dragons Composed.
Basically, I handled the booth, [livejournal.com profile] haplo9000 loaded the car, [livejournal.com profile] reannon went to a panel on the physics of space combat. [livejournal.com profile] saraphina_marie did a signing for Apex and a panel on self promotion. We left the booth in the hands of her adorable werewolf husband and checked out at noon.

Around Jackson, I wiped out and [livejournal.com profile] haplo9000 took over. I slept rest of the way in.
I made it in time for the chuch meeting at 4.
The kids were glad to see me.
