9) The Instruments of Torture. Michael Kerrigan. A rather gruesome look at torture through the ages and the implements used in it. Nonfiction.

8) A Separate Peace. Herbert Knowles. Another one I'd never read. A New England Idyll that was a tonic after all the Lovecraft. Very intense. More than a little slashy.

Books 1-7 )

Gave up on Pride and Prejudice after the first disc. Am working on Treasure Island instead. Am fudging on the "never read" idea to go back and read Stranger in a Strange Land I read it at 18, over 20 years ago. I think I'll understand it better now.

Yay!

So "Outfoxed" for the Torqued Fairy Tales anth is done.

$50 and a print anthology. I'm excited. It needs rewrites, but I'm too close to it right now. It doesn't need to be in until April 1.
valarltd: (writing porn)
I was reading some feminist blogs before lunch. They are universal of their condemnation of pornography as a male-dominated commodification of women.

Which leaves me wondering about my own second job.

I am a woman, writing erotica (porn with better lighting and production values) for other women, being published by a female-run small press.

Aside from the fictional characters and one male editor, I'm not sure how men or the patriarchy comes into this at all. It all feels very lesbianic, especially when I'm writing f/f. I'm writing women making love to women, in order to please and arouse other women who will pay me, through the agency of a female company.

Yet, I'm told lesbians have no sexual agency under patriarchy.

Now I'm all conflicted and confused. I think I'll go be an agent of either compliance or subversion and go write another pegging scene.

My kids. *sigh*

Dollface is sporting a full-sleeve tattoo that includes the name "David" (I don't dare ask), hearts, flowers and stars. There's a snake that starts on her hand and wends its way up her arm. There's a crucifix on her calf. At least, she SAYS it's Jesus. It looks rather blobbish to me. The snowman on her tummy is clear though.

Obi is pregnant. By aliens. At least that's what he says. I harbor a sneaking suspicion it was his padawan. Bradlikin.

And Jonner has decided to cause global warming all by himself...with some help from Tribble. Between the two of them the room smells like a swamp and the candles are burning methane blue.

My kids... Baths and strories tonight.
