You guys are nuts!
Oct. 27th, 2005 09:33 amI can't write 50,000 fictional words about ticky boxes!
So far, The Paladin and His Horse and More Fanfic are leading yesterday's poll.
Gay werewolves (the sequel), Sooky Software and the Hero's Journey are tied for second.
Captain Salzoran and the kink are tied for last.
I signed up for
3_ships. Anyone wanting to write Luke/Han/Leia (not necessarily incestuous) should join me...
This was a great little exchange last year. It made me research and stretch and learn.
yuletide is starting again too. This is always fabulous. The most obscure fandoms, like, ever. (I wound up writing "Faith gets time-slid and enjoys the company of Indiana Jones")
In less salutary religio-political news, I am horrified by this article:
The End of Courtship
The whole antiquated tone makes it more a performance art piece than anything, and I can't argue the assertion: "This brings me to what is probably the deepest and most intractable obstacle to courtship and marriage: a set of cultural attitudes and sensibilities that obscure and even deny the fundamental difference between youth and adulthood."
I saw much of this in my own peers, many of whom are still unmarried in their late 30s, or who had a brief, failed marriage and said "forget it." They live much as they did when were in college, 20 years ago.
But what got me most was this:
Indeed, virtually all of the social changes we have so recently experienced are the bittersweet fruits of the success of our modern democratic, liberal, enlightened society — celebrating equality, freedom, and universal secularized education, and featuring prosperity, mobility, and astonishing progress in science and technology. Even brief reflection shows how the dominant features of the American way of life are finally inhospitable to the stability of marriage and family life and to the mores that lead people self-consciously to marry.
And LIBERALS hate America? This man has just said that core American values are incompatible with Marriage and Family and by extention (and code words) Christianity and Republicanism.
Toss in Ann Coulter's "Frankly I'm not a big fan of the First Amendment," (except when she can hide behind it and yell "censorship!") and you can wonder why I boggle when I'm told it's liberals that hate America.
Add the Creed of the Christian Reconstructionists and at this point, if anyone tries telling me it's the liberals that hate America, I think I'll yell "Projection!"
