In my family tree, my great grandmother 5 times removed was Melvina Tanner. She is the first one we have actual evidence of mental illness for. (we are all insane, but I'm the first psychopath since Grandma Melvina)

Grandma Melvina was my size, very tall and broad of shoulder, with the sort of muscle that was only found on mid-nineteenth century farm wives. The story goes that Grandad was in the field and a neighbor came running and said "get on home, or there'll be blood!" He hurried home, knowing his wife's temper. He found her, butcher knife in hand, chasing a luckless peddler through the house. He let the man escape, and got the knife away from Grandma Melvina.

"He ruined my PEACHES!" It seems she'd been canning, and burned it when the peddler came.
