Been hearing a lot about how Chamber of Secrets pushes the PG rating and is too much for kids.

Bullshit. Pure and simple.

PG does NOT mean kiddie movie. It means there are things in the movie that may bot be suitable for children.

It means frontal female nudity. (Logan's Run, Clash of the Titans)

It means rear male nudity. (Logan's Run again)

It means all profanity and vulgarity up to, but not including "fuck." (Hubby and I went around about whether or not one could say "shit" in a PG movie. I plopped in Frisco Kid and settled the arguement. I used Raiders of the Lost Ark and Meteor as back-up)

It means drag queens and gay men sitting in bed together sipping tea. (Victor, Victoria)

It means decapitation (Clash of the Titans), dismemberment (Star Wars), snapped necks (ibid), genocide (ibid), charred corpses (ibid) and blood-spattered walls (Time after Time).

I think rape (implied, non graphic) is considered PG as well. Male rape is an R (Deliverance) as is raping the girl you've just disemboweled while her little sister listens from the other side of the door. (Messenger: The Joan of Arc Story)

So, messages written in blood, petrified cats, people and ghosts, and messy fights are WELL within a PG rating.

Maybe now I can get some actual thinking done.
