State of the Sooky
Mar. 10th, 2012 10:07 pmI had a long, bad day at work. It started when a line-haul driver cranked the landing gear down too far. My fifth-wheel slid right under the kingpin. I had to get the shop to help me get out and lower the trailer enough to hook it. My scanner was, naturally, wrong. I don't know what they have the zombies on the dock scanning, but it isn't being loaded on MY truck. I had a transmission to deliver. I needed more caffeine than was safe or even prudent.
I had a weird dream about
hopefuldark. Odd in that we haven't spoken in a year.
I came home, changed and went to the movies. I can't remember seeing a movie on opening weekend since I've been a parent. (I think the last one was The Princess Bride) But I have been waiting THIRTY FOUR YEARS for this movie. So, the littles and I went to see John Carter
ZOMG, people. It was worth the wait!
It's a big gorgeous movie, with pretty people in excellent costumes, weird aliens, fabulous technology. And most of all, it looked right, it looked real, and I believed it. They took some massive liberties with the books (esp. the Therns) but the story held together anyway. I even bought the rather goofy "sak" scene, where John learns about Mars' low gravity.
I am once again in love with Kantos Kan (we shall draw a veil over fanfic by 11 year olds, as well as back of notebook doodles) and have fallen hard for Dejah Thoris. Never much cared for her in the books, since her primary purpose was to get kidnapped every third chapter. But here, she is smart, strong, witty and beautiful all in one. Taylor Kitsch held up the disbelief nicely, and Willem Dafoe added gravitas, even as a 10' tall green Thark, with 4 arms. And Woola. I kinda love Woola. Oli kind of loves Woola too.
I came home and visited with
nbrooks. I hunted Book Bears.
I got final formatting done, and Adventuresses is uploaded to Createspace for print work. Once it's approved, the Kindle copy will be avialable, and .pdf and .epub versions have been sent to the Literary Underworld.
Other than that, accomplished nothing whatsoever.
