"APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain."

Seemed fitting.
I must be ovulating. Every male, and most females, look good to me.
And half the male profs have visited/flirted with me today. Even grouchy old Dr. E. Strong pheromones? I mean, I'm wearing a turtleneck! (and not a tight one either)

I was tempted to go proposition Barb in Engineering on my lunch break. She pings my gaydar even if she is married.

Also, was overcome by urge to create a Luke-centric zine (Small, around 100-150 pages), open to any pairing (or none) but having regular themes. Because I am a tech-writer, a nitpicker and a general believer in CYA, I started by doing the Writers' Guidelines. I worried they were a bit draconian and have been told they are nervous-making.

Writers' Guidelines for "From the other adventures of Luke Skywalker."

Mission Statement:
This is a Luke focused zine. Stories will have Luke Skywalker as their primary character, and will fit the anounced theme of the zine.

Technical, Boring Format Stuff:

Stories will be submitted in English.

Stories will be submitted in .txt format, and standard web formatting (no indents, line between paragraphs. / words/= telepathy, *words* for foreign language and _word_ for italics.)

Art will be submitted as .gif, .jpg, .bitmap or .tiff format. Black & white is preferred. Color is OK.

Stories and art will be exclusive property of the zine for 6 months. During this time they may not be published in electronic or hard copy. After 6 months, all rights revert to author.

Contributors' copiers will go to submitters of at least 5 pages of story or 3 poems or 1 illustration. Those who do not meet these will be offered a prorated price on the zine.

Touchy, Lengthy Content stuff:

The title page of the zine will include title, author, genre, and catagory, rating and pairing. (The last may be left out if it needs to be a surprise)

Title: The title of the story. This will not be altered in any way by the staff.

Author: You may use real name or pseudonym. Your e-mail and a brief comment (1-2 sentences) on who you are will also be needed.

Genre: This is left to editorial discretion. Upon acceptance of the story, you will be told what genre the editor believes it is. Please feel free to correct her. Hurt/comfort and angst look a lot alike.

The categories and ratings are as follows:
Gen: No romantic involvement whatsoever. Rated G-R
Het: Romantic involvement with the opposite sex. G-NC17
Slash: Romantic involvement with the same sex. G-NC17

Ratings are the same for slash and het.

G: minimal violence, kiss, mention of long term relationship or profession of love. No profanity or vulgarity

PG: Results of violence, kissing and cuddling (going to bed & morning after). Profanity and vulgarity up to but not including "fuck."

R: Nudity, implied sex. No language restriction. No violence restriction

NC-17: Explicit Sex.

Art may include nudity, but not actual penetration or sex acts.

There are 4 stages of Acceptance in this zine:

Accepted: We're printing it as-is or with minor proofing.

Accepted pending revisions: Most fic will get this. This means the story is great, we love it, we're just confused in parts, and need amplification.

Please revise and resubmit: This means there are major structural elements that make the story not quite right for the zine. These elements will be noted. If you wish to rewrite the story, altering these elements, we will consider it again.

Not right at all: This would be a "Chewbacca and the Droids go asteroid mining and Luke shows up on the last page to congratulate them" story. It doesn't fit the purpose or theme of the zine. A serious "Luke goes dark and conquers the galaxy" for the humor issue is another example.

Editorial Whim stuff:

Mary Sue/Authorial insertion characters shall be limited to cameos, unless the story is humor or parody.

Post-ANH fic shall not include whining or any reference thereto.

No PWP. Porno-sensibility will be asked for heavy revisions.

No stories with Luke (or others) under the age of 16 and behaving sexually. (Exception: child abuse can be mentioned, but no graphic details)

Injuries and violence should be handled realistically. Please do not drop an asteroid on someone and have him walk away. (Acme products are not available in a GFFA) ;-)

I really need advice from editors with more experience.
These are mostly for me, to keep me even-handed and to have something to refer back to. I just want it all in black and white so nothing gets done "on the fly."

(I wrote Nuclear Reactor Operating Procedures. Does it show?)
