I was thinking, as a result of a recent discussion on characters of faith in m/m romance and I decided to take an inventory of characters and their religion. I'm skipping most of the short stories and minor characters.

Well, he IS a werewolf. And that's kind of central to it.

It was great fun. Paul is an architect. Dan is an English professor (specializes in New England Transcendentalists). They meet on the internet and find all kinds of adventures.

I was once writing filler copy for an RPG (Bulldogs! from Galileo Games), and made the snake-people into sun worshipers, for similar reasons. Which gets interesting when they develop space travel and warp drive. All sorts of factions formed then.

I don't exactly write romance, but the inventory of this year's publications gets me one poem about ancient Sumerians and one story where all the characters are New Yorkers who practice ancient Egyptian religion.

The only romance I've read from cover to cover is about angels who kind of self-identify as pagan.

Would that be Sara Harvey's YEAR AND A DAY?

The vampire apocalypse I'm writing is an interesting mishmash. I have our hero, Oren and his kids who are pretty much nothing at all. I have Christian evangelical vampires. I have immortal vampire hunters that range from modern atheist to 17th century puritan to Jewish, in the "Marched in the Armies of King David" sense. And all of this plays a role.

Yes, that would be A Year and a Day.

Is your vampire apocalypse the same one for which you wrote the past post about the mechanics of vampirism? I think I remember the immortal vampire hunters (something to do with what happens to the fetus when a pregnant woman gets turned, if I remember correctly).

It seems like in my stuff, religion tends to matter more to the peripheral characters than the major characters. So I have some theological discussions, but rarely center-stage.
