Yesterday was busy. I grocery shopped, cleaned out the fridge, defrosted the freezer and did laundry.

Today has been quieter. I watched Nikita. I watched 2? 3? episodes of The Walking Dead. Both of these are awesome and you should be watching them.

There are parts of the Walking Dead I am loving and hating at the same time. The whole rampant misogyny thing is getting to me. Shane is an asshat, I get it. But he's a good-guy asshat who may be a sexist pig and boning his best friend's wife (after telling her that friend is dead) but he's also a natural leader and won't stand for any real abuse of his people. I want to see him get eaten...slowly.

I hate/love the whole "the apocalypse came and women are still doing crap work" part of the "Tell it to the Frogs" ep. One of the biggest thing in any post-apoc world is how quickly Might makes Right and basic biology are going to reassert themselves. I have problems with post-apocs where second generation women are as independent as modern women. I can think of ways to do it, but they tend to involve autocracy and isolation. Out in the wild? Women will be property if not currency.

I don't like that the women characters are strictly background. I do love the one who says "I miss my vibrator."

Norman Reedus is playing a racist redneck named Daryl. He's brilliant. Hard to watch, because I find myself despising the character, but brilliant.

The effects are good. And I think I kind of love Guillermo and the Vatos. Heartbreaking. This show is ripping me up in weird ways. I mean, we lose one of the encampment people, and it doesn't strike me as nearly as heartrending as Felipe's Abuela.

There's only two ways this series can end: Our hero and his people manage to stay safe until all the zombies rot out. OR Our hero's wife and son get bit, he puts them down and shoots himself.

Nikita...Oh man. I'm warming to Nikita, Alex and Owen, our heroes, but I'm still watching it for Birkhoff. And yes, it was a COMPLETE Nick moment when he worked out the problem at hand. Step by step, methodical under tutelage, and there it was.

In non-media news, I'm supposed to be editing. Got the mock-up for LIKE AN IRON FIST and caught about 10 things I need to change. Working on THIGH TO THIGH and practically rewriting.

We have a busy night: Oli is tutoring, Obi has a band concert, Mudd has a late-running teacher's meeting. I put chili in the crockpot, because it's going to be tough.

Also, there is no photo scavenger hunt. Stripy socks for Oli and Holiday Ties for the boys tapped out my St. Nicholas spirit.
