Dragon*Con 2010: Sunday and Monday
Sep. 7th, 2010 03:26 pmFrom here it kinda goes all blurry...
Bun ended up moving in with us Saturday evening. She went to the Voltaire concert and stood in line to get Obi's CD autographed.
Got fired again, twice, Sunday morning, for waking Elizabeth to get her to signing and reading on time. We were between Ann Crispin and Misty Lackey. Yeah. The line to Spain was not for Elizabeth, alas.
The signing went all right. The reading went pretty well. She had about half a dozen people show up, and read from the forthcoming "Blackfire." Sold a couple books there and then we hung out in the green room for a while.
Had interesting chats with Hugh, an astronaut candidate and skydiver. (he shares the flaw of all fanatics. I can now write a skydiving story if I want) We visted with Robert Pralgo, who is quite a hottie and really sweet. And we had a run-in with Leslie Fish, who decided to enlighten a member of the media about her Abu Ghraib theory.
After escaping that, it was time for the 2012 panel. ZOMG! The room was packed to overflowing. And I never cease to marvel that in a country where 75% of people have no idea who the Mayans even WERE, everyone is panicking because they ran out of rock for their calendar! (I know, I know, it's a cyclical thing, every 5100 years) *sigh* I actually got a little glazed during this one.
I basically hung out for a while, called my folks and gave everything else a miss. I did make the Rainbow Party. If that was a small one, I would be overwhelmed at the dance-party. Glad I skipped it. Had a nice chat on the balcony with Jon and Andrew and he-whose-name-I-forgot after 3 drinks. After finding myself hot for the third cross-dresser of the evening, I decided the Green room was safer. I was wrong...
I rolled in about 2:30, only to find the Marriot had been shut down and cleared out. I played the "I'll get you there, Corellians can't get lost" card on a lost D*C staffer at the Hyatt and did manage to get her into the hotel so she could get back to her job.
Up relatively early Monday so Elizabeth could make the Humor in Dark Fantasy panel.
Got fired again.
Lee Martindale is always fun as a moderator and this was no exception. The humor should flow out of the situation, it can be a great stress relief, but don't let it get out of hand.
We packed out of the room, getting Elizabeth's stuff squared away. And Bun and I just loaded ours. I sent E off to her last panel and we caught the Marta out of town.
The trip home was very uneventful. We stopped for Chinese, since we were both ravenous. King Buffet was just remodeled and hitting the Four Elements theme hard. Decent food though.
I dropped Bun at school, stopped at Wal-Mart for distilled water and came on home.
Obi was pleased as punch about the CD. Jonner liked his Dr. Who comics and Oli loved her fan. So all is well.
And I have until Oct 3 to make a baby afghan, a steampunk costume and get my act together.
