So there I was. I hung up the phone from my Dad (He'd made St. Louis w/o mishap despite icy roads). Settling in on the couch with my cross-stitch and Working Girl, dishwasher running, planning to go shopping after the dishwasher finished and I started the Conquest of Laundry Mountain.

There's a knock on the door.

I open it and there stands my mother! Richard said my jaw hit the floor!
Mom and Joe were on their way home from Lafayette Lousiana, where they'd been to the funeral of Joe's brother.

Mom looks super. She's getting around really well. She's dropped a bit of weight. The house was still reasonably clean, which was nice.

Richard knew. They'd checked in with him at the Sheraton last night. The kids were tickled to see grandparents on two days.

We had a nice visit, went through some bags and boxes (Mom wanted an Avon travel bag and one of Grandma's coats fit her) and I took them on the scenic tour of Memphis. Dinner at Shoney's and they decided to get a motel room. Something about 1/2" of ice at Cape Girardeau.

Mom commented I'd lost some weight (I have, about 15 lb since Christmas) and asked if it was deliberate. I grinned and said "yes, but stress really helps."

She laughed when i squee'd over an afghan. Grandma had made me one like it, and Bunny had taken scissors to it as a toddler. Now I have a new one. Kids did some afghan squeeing of their own.

It was so good to see her. I really miss Mom living so far away.
I'll see her briefly in May. She's keeping the kids part of the time I'm at MWC, but we won't have much of a visit. Not the usual "Let's go garage saling!" or "Let's get Brenda and the girls and go to the zoo" level. Or even the "Let's go through the storage room."

The latter is always an adventure.

What a wonderful surprise. You know, I think I like Richard. Sounds like you have a pretty darned good hubby. So happy you had a nice visit.

My parents visited last weekend and it was a combination stress thing--they have a remarkable talent of reducing me to a 4 year-old--and wonderful. This was the most stress-free visit we have ever had--they are being mind-boggling supportive of the new boyfriend and issuing the proper amount of hate for the old one. The ex was trying to take my car away and they cosigned my car-loan to get him off the loan. I'm 42, they had the perfect opportunity to reduce me to 4 year-old-hood and didn't do it!

Anyway, that's not important except that I can appreciate what a joy it was for you to see your parents. The afghan sounds wonderful!

Got a kick out of your words "Let's go garage saling." At first reading I was stopped short. She is sailing her garage? OH! Garage SALEing!

Rolling on the floor laughing!

I have a good hubby. Love him lots.

You came in late to my journal. Mom had knee-replacement surgery in Dec. When i saw her over Christmas, she was very loopy from the pain-pills and not getting around much at all. She's doing really well.

That's so neat about your car loan. Vindictive exes are pains beyond belief. Not that I've had any, but I've encountered a few. (Joe is Mom's 4th husband, Dad is on his 3rd divorce)
