I was explaining to my mother that I don't give money to people who are actively trying to harm me and mine. That means we don't eat at Chick-Fil-A, we don't order Domino's pizza, and we avoid Hobby Lobby.

I also refuse to give to the Salvation Army because of their policies on gays and women. And I don't buy Boy Scout anything, nor let my sons take part. Not that they qualify anyway, since neither of them is a believer.

Educate me on Chick-Fil-A, because I love them, and this makes me sad. D:

The Salvation Army is also anti-labor. They could fail harder, but they'd have to work at it.

Read the link. It has the sources
The short form:

One of the tactics Chick-Fil-A is infamous for is stealth evangelism targeting kids--via use of both Veggietales and via giving out Focus on the Family audio programs as children's meal incentives.
...
Chick-Fil-A has also been associated with the promotion of "dad's groups" linked to Campus Crusade for Christ (which has been noted as being coercive on a number of campuses) and promotes the Arthur S. DeMoss Foundation--a group that has promoted "bait and switch" evangelism, is a major funding source for dominionist groups, and is most known for having famous sports figures (including, formerly, NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon) promoting an explicitly dominionist version of the New Testament.
...

Chick-Fil-A is a major sponsor of National Bible Week--a dominionist-operated scheme to get state legislatures to pass resolutions declaring a week of Bible study and which was started by a proto-dominionist group in 1940 called the "National Coalition for Religious Recovery" (which felt the Great Depression occured because people "got away from the church"); is one of the largest corporate funders of Focus on the Family (and FotF has lauded him back in past--after all, he does drop those CDs encouraging the genocide of the entire pagan population into kid's meals); apparently publishes books on "Christian business" popular in the dominionist community; and operates a fairly extensive group of facilities targeting kids and adults.

Ministerial mills, steeplejacking, close association with Bill Gothard.

They also fund a group that runs marriage seminars. Some of which involve cloistering an abusive spouse and his partner (his because that's more likely, statiostically speaking) away from outside contact. Which sounds like a recipe for more abuse or murder.

A lot of today's writer's block answers have been about the Salvation Army. If you don't mind sharing, what are the policies that surround gays and women?

Gross.

Thankfully McDonalds has a perfect Chick-Fil-A substitute sandwich, and I never really liked the waffle fries anyway.

The Salvation Army refuses to hire out or partnered gay people, and has lobbied all the way to the White House to be exempt from local hiring practices, after giving and then rescinding domestic partner benefits.
http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2002/january7/11.18.html

They've lobbied against the repeal of ant-gay laws in Scotland

They've run pedophile rings out their orphanages.

Spiritual coercion and theft are run of the mill

They threatened to close their NYC soup kitchens rather than offer the city's required domestic partner benefits.

The D-Man Checks In: Okay, so you've hit on 2 of 3, so I may as well ask about Domino's Pizza, as they are the only take-out pizza I find palatable. For my money: Black Jack Pizza has crust like cardboard, Papa Murphy's Pizza has crust so thin you can't hold it without it breaking (like old Play Doh), Pudge Brothers Pizza uses meat you could chip a tooth on trying to bite into... but Domino's gets it right every time for a most satisfying meal. Lots of other minor pizza outfits in Denver, but I've always kept to the tried & true I have learned is Domino's.

The founder, Tom Monaghan, was a devout Catholic. He made no secret that he donated to Operation Rescue (an actively terroristic anti-abortion group) and Committee to End State Funded Abortions in Michigan.

He no longer gets a share of each pizza, but while he did, we didn't buy from him. Nowadays it's easier to get a $5 pie from Little Ceasar's (which I like much better) than blow $7 at Dominos.

Carl Karcher, owner of Carl Jr's (also Hardees) has the same baggage: open support of terrorism.

The D-Man Checks Back In: Okaaay... So you promote boycotting Domino's Pizza for what the Founder (no longer in control of the corporate purse strings) used to do with his profits?! Does Domino's Pizza still maintain these ties with & support of domestic terrorists? ...Or are we just holding a grudge?

Kinda like boycotting Washington D.C. as a vacation destination because much of the original government buildings were built using African slave labor.

It got to be a habit. I didn't realize the founder was no longer associated. Now we just eat elsewhere because of habit and price.

Little Ceasars is cheaper and better here.
