A day of some small exertion
Jul. 7th, 2010 09:43 pmWork wasn't bad.
Oli rode with me. She tried to parse out what I meant when I said she and
reannon's Kiddo were adorable. I explained it as "Well, imagine you're a big basket of kittens. All cute and cuddlesome and fuzzy. And Kiddo is a big basket of fat puupies, with their little butterball tummies and big paws and eyes. Now, put the kittens and the puppies into an even BIGGER basket and wrap a rainbow-colored smiley face ribbon around the handle. That's how adorable the two of you are when in the same room."
Skipped the bike to make the noon meeting. Afterward, I mailed off contracts to Ellora and Amber Quill.
But the Prius developed a funny thump in a tire. I said front passenger but Mudd insisted it was the rear. So he took it off to the dealership.
Except that the front passenger tire blew on the causeway over the bottomlands.
He called me to come help him change it. Wisely, I packed a water bottle. I found him on an upslope leading to the River bridge.
He had it up on the jack and was stuck, unable to get the lugnuts loose. I stood on the tire iron and they popped right off. Just as he was taking the tire off, we had a heart-stopping moment when the car rolled back and off the jack. HE HADN'T SET THE PARKING BRAKE! On an upslope!
I set the brake, rescued the jack from under the car and cranked it up. The jack was never meant for that much abuse and the crank bent in my hands.
But we got it up, got the spare on and got him going, after a very long drink. It was hot and humid and on white concrete.
