OMG!

The UPS guy caught me today as I got home from work.

I now hold the first print copy, trade paperback, of Nikolai.

My squee knows no bounds.

The pretty, bound for [livejournal.com profile] bittermint

It's beautiful.

No joke, though I get the feeling I'm missing a major story behind this book. ♥

Oh there's a story...

In the fall of 2005, I got into a livejournal RPG. I was [livejournal.com profile] 12parseckessel. Imagine a 16 year old Han Solo, a walking bundle of testosterone, indiscriminate in his tastes and indiscreet. And he bumped up against Frank Donovan.

Anyway, one thing led to another. And Nikolai was an offshoot of the game, not exactly fanfic, which I wrote up for Nanowrimo 2005. Over time, Nick changed from a pseudo-Han to his own person, and he looked a lot more like Aaron Stanford. (but Ligatos remains Oded Fehr)

My kinky gay dystopic Pygmalion tale was rejected by every e-publisher I know.

But last year (2008) it came out as an e-book from Circle Dark. Circle Dark went on hiatus and released our rights. And Dark Roast Press snapped it up.

I got permission to do print because Dark Roast wasn't set up for it. They may opt for PoD very soon, in which case Nikolai will be sold through their Print On Demand store

One hell of an RPG. ;) It's interesting to hear how Nick evolved, that's... eh, for lack of better phrasing, pretty damn cool how that worked out.

Well, to sum things up, thanks for filling me in and congratulations!

Nikolai isn't the only story to come out of Fandom High.

"For Love of Etarin" is essentially cracked-out crossover. Star Wars meets the Persian Boy.

There are a couple of pieces of fanfic too:

Whoa! You mean it's a limited edition of *one copy???*

I'm so special. ;)

[identity profile] valarltd.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's a 2 copy charity run. You get one, and the [livejournal.com profile] saveours00j user gets one.

Later, it will be available through Amazon.

Our father is buying a copy from Amazon.

I warned him up front. 19 sex acts in less than 200 pages.
