It strikes me I need a pagan icon

Today is a "National Day of Prayer." Although the event is explicitly Christian, there is no reason or need for it to be.

So, a Prayer for today:

This is the season when, in ancient times, great fires were lit upon hilltops to signify the coming of spring and to pray for an abundant summer. At that time too the ancient Celtic peoples drove their herds near the Beltane fires, praying for the health and protection of the cattle. Now, in this time of desperate pain for animals and farmers, we light again the fires of spring in our hearts and in our homes, in our windows and our spirit.

As we do, we remember:
The health of the herds is the health of the people.
The health of the herds is the health of the earth.
The life of the herds is the life of the people.
The life of the herds is the life of the earth.
Lighting the flames of Beltane, we pray for healing:
Healing for the animals.
Healing for those who care for the animals.
Healing for the land.
Healing for us all.

There are more frivolous interpretations to today, and more ominous ones.
But this one, in the midst of our current crises, seems appropriate.

I'm sorry to be so ignorant, but I seldom listen to news. So what crisis is happening right now?

All sorts of them
Food shortages
Energy costs skyrocketing and driving food costs higher.
home losses
everything.

Oh. *Those* crises! Yeah, I haven't missed those ones. I thought maybe there was something to do with crops or herds, or some such.

I figured food shortages fell under crops.

There are days

That I think the mayans have it right and that December 2012 is going to be interesting

And then of course there are days I feel like we are living in the world of "Good Omens" but with the humor sorely lacking.
