One of the things you need to know about my folks is they're geeks. Packrat geeks. I read the same books they'd had as kids, including Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Encyclopedia Brown. Donna and I had swapped them around, read them cover to cover and back again.
And for three summers, between ten and twelve, we had run D&D Detective Agency out of the garage. We'd made a little money finding lost cats, lost dogs, lost bikes and, once, a lost husband. Old Mr. Marsh had wandered out to get the paper one fine June morning and kept ambling. He had Alzheimer's. We found him without much trouble.
Ugh.
And I thought I could relax a while and let the royalties roll in...
*cue hollow laugh*
Did I mention I work 60 hours/week too?
