On the road again

Obi's all OVER the road.
He wiped out on his new bike. His knees, hands and arms have a bad case of road rash. He's OK, just very sore. Without a helmet, tho'... *Shudder*

****

The usual "Oh how did we ever survive" meme is going around. No seat belts, no bike helmets, no bee-sting kits, with the implication of "we survived and are turning our kis into wusses with our safety foolishness."

My answer is, as always, "enough of us DIDN'T that things changed." I'm glad they have.

gotta run, time to drive. Bleh

*looks at her own knees that still have scars from a bike chain tearing it to shreads in three places*

POOR LITTLE OBI *wishes she could make him feel better. I always hate hearing about poor little babies getting hurt on their bikes.

He's better after a warm bath and bactine.
He's almost 12 and would hardly consider himself a baby, esp. since he wiped out on a 10 speed.

AMEN, sister. That meme pisses me off. I'm GLAD that when Kiddo inevitably falls off the swings, he bounces on the nice soft padding of shredded recycled tires instead of crashing to the concrete and scarring himself for life with multiple lacerations. I must be a bad mom. After all, it's not like the padding STOPS them from falling. Nothing on earth ever could. :)

I hate nostalgia. Because the "good old days" weren't.

I said that and the reaction was "you just don't understand a yearning for a simpler time." I shut them up with "Not when that time includes 'white only' drinking fountains, alcoholism through the roof from boredom and 'men wanted' job ads."

I kinda like that meme, only because I think I've had more than my share of scrapes and skinned knees from a natural lack of balance. Why should kids today get to fall on spongy nerf playgrounds while I hit cold, rough concrete?

Then again, I despise children and do feel a small amount of glee at a *fall* *scream* that I don't have to deal with.

Frankly, I have my own scars. I'd rather my kids not have theirs that last 30 years.

And I'd rather not lose any to bee stings (mudd's side is highly allergic) or other avoidable crap

I know what he feels like. I've still got a white patched scar on my knee and a long one on my shin from the bike wreck. I followed it up a couple of years later with a skateboard wreck where I fell on the SAME DAMN KNEE! Ow. The hair that grows there is even white.

I don't think we are protecting kids too much as far as padding goes, but I do think we are sanitizing them too much. All of this "anti-bacterial" everything isn't allowing them to develop their immune systems by fighting off small infections, so when they do get sick, it's huge.

We skip anti-bacterial stuff. I believe in natural resistance. But definitely padding, helmets and anti-venom
