Fandom thoughts

Or, So this is what Gafiation feels like

I've noticed that iver the last year I've had less and less interest in doing anything fannish.

I mean, I'll view the source and squee, but there is no fanfic.
I'll hear a song and go "ooo, that'd be a great *insert fandom* vid" but it never gets made.
I don't participate in my mailing lists.
I don't read fanfic.

I'm sure part of this is Fandom high fallout.
Some of it is professional writing deadlines and pressure.
Some of it is family stress.
And some of it is job stress.

Writing for [livejournal.com profile] jedi__santa was like pulling teeth. I'm not pleased with the story, but I turned it in anyway.

I haven't even started [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. [livejournal.com profile] 3_ships, ironically enough, is coming nicely. 571 words.

And those are the only fanfiction I've written this year!

I am actually dreading Media West this year. I don't want to sit in panels and watch fanvids and stuff. I'd rather spend the holiday weekend writing.

I'm finding my own characters much more engaging.

There's nothing wrong with gafiating. You have enough on your plate right now without adding fannish deadlines and stress to it; withdrawing from fandom for a while might be the best thing for you. It may be that you'll come back after time away full of inspiration for all kinds of fannish production. It may be that you'll find other ways to spend your time. Either way, you have to do what's right for your situation.

So don't go. Write instead. Or go to MediaWest and write there. Whatever works for you. Personally, I've been avoiding MW programming for years (except for the Whose Line thing).

Just my two cents. 8-)
