Just random figures
Each trip is $147.50 before taxes.
So each run (Blytheville/Mishawaka/Blytheville) makes me $295.
My taxes are $58.38/ run
My health insurance is $43.18
My vision is 3.66
My dental is 13.49
Total=60.33/week, regardless of how many runs.
1 run a week is $176
2 runs makes me $412.91
A three run week--while exhausting-- is a $649.53 paycheck.
My biweekly paycheck at CBU was about 490, after all the deductions. I was working 6 day weeks, and split shifts for that. (~41/day, iow about 6/hr)
At one run a week, I'm seeing $352 every two weeks, which is a pay cut, but also means I'm only working 2 days a week (~88/day or 8/driving hour)
A two run week makes me $103/day, or 9.36/driving hour
A three run week is 108/day or 9.83/driving hour
I get paid $8-9/hr to drive, listen to music and plot stories.
In contrast, a 10,000 word short story typically pays $40. It tends to take about 20 hours to write. Depends on the story and how dedicated I am. Writing makes me $2/hr.

Also, you get socialized medicine.
Take the insurance out and it's $10.77/driving hour. And I'm not factoring in the on-time and safety bonuses. They are just that: bonuses.

So all in all, to the good. :)
