Because I am a scatterbrain

There was a feedback thingy. Over at [livejournal.com profile] graphophobia'a place. I signed up. I read my assigned author's work. Then I forgot about it. I'm a dunce, a bad person.

I drew [livejournal.com profile] docmichelle (her work is here. Which is lovely as she is the wonderful person who wrote one of the [livejournal.com profile] yultide stories I requested this year, a Brimstone/Askewniverse crossover called "Divine Comedy." So that's where we'll start.

There isn't enough Brimstone fic. It was a very shortlived show. But this little crossover is not quite as silly as the name implies, and very much in the spirit of the show.

When Zeke Stone investigates a potentially demonic stripper, he learns a few things about his employer and about God as well. Serendipity is back to dancing (she got bored with Heaven), and when Zeke fingers her as his target, he runs afoul of the muse and The Metatron as well. His real target is in town, and the assistance from the two divine beings helps the Hound of Hell on his quest.

This piece is fabulous. Lucifer is in fine snarky form, and the Metatron is even snarkier. Poor Zeke is just fuddled, but driven. Even Ash and Seredipity are done well. And the advertising flier at the end always gives me a chuckle: Jay and Silent Bob, prophets of Her Almighty Kick-assedness, provide wisdom and guidance for a minimal fee.

The Devil's Due is a darker piece, claustrophobic almost (it takes place in a car trunk) but very, very hot.The pure control the devil exercises over Zeke is turned around on him and made into self-control. It's everything we wanted to see in the series and never got to. And the bit where he licks one of Zeke's tatoos....brrrrr! Hot, wicked, brutal and sexy.

Sweet Tooth is Willow/Fred. I don't follow "Angel" but this made Fred really stand out for me. The repeating cycle of "Sugar is bad for you. Fred knows this" coupled with the run-ins with Willow, who is cinnamon candy apples, strawberries, cherry, vanilla, honey and sorbet mimics the loops of a sugar high-sugar low cycle, or a diet-binge pattern. I love the emphasis on the child-like things, because in many ways, Fred is a child. I also love how she grows up through the story: from relying on others to relying on herself, from lollipops and cokies to pancakes and martinis. Willow is not actually characterized but more a force who moves through Fred's world, sugar that's bad for her.

The sole, and only complaint I have with this fic, and it's a tiny one is that "forth" means to bring out. "Fourth" is the ordinal number.

Forty (Tongue) Lashes and a Bit of Parley is a BtVS/PotC crossover. While Anya is not my favorite character, I do quite like her. When she gets a call from a Port Royal strumpet to take vengeance on a certain pirate captain, sparks fly. Between her bluntness, and his convoluted style, the seduction is afoot before Anya quite realizes what she's gotten into.

This is highly entertaining, and one of the more plausible crossovers I've encountered. Both Anya and Jack are in character, and even Hallie (who has a small role) is good. Sexy, subtle and very rich in detail.

This Wonderful Life is interesting, if not exactly pleasant. It starts off very sunny, a lovely day at the Potter's, Sirius coming in for dinner, being tackled by five-year old Harry, and watching James struggle with a muggle barbeque (Lily's idea). And when Remus shows up, all khakis and citrus, the sparks fly. It's the "Coulda-shoulda-been" life that the war pre-empted. But tehre's a twist. When it comes it is dark and bitter and wounding in all the best ways. This is one I've bookmarked to read over and over because it isn't hurt-comfort fic. It's comfort-hurt fic.

Actually, I've bokmarked the whole site.

Oh wow. Thanks. No problems on the delay, I was just, like I said, nervous that my stories were off-putting. One of those writer things. :)

one of the yultide stories I requested this year Cool. That worked out well then, didn't it. :)

It's been so long since I wrote Devil's Due, that I've forgotten much of the story. I'm glad there is something worthwhile in it. I need to go back to that world one of these days.

And thanks for pointing out the typo in Sweet Tooth--ack. It will be fixed shortly.

"comfort-hurt fic" Heh. I like that. It's exactly what it is, isn't it.

Thank you so much for doing this--you made my day!
