Productive day

I hadn't actually planned to explain gayness to my 9 year old son. It sort of happened. He'd never seen my shirt before, and with my hair up, wasn't sure it was me when i came to pick him up. (he recognized my umbrella)

We talked, and it turns out he'd only heard about it as an insult or from overheard discussions. I explained what it was: when a man loves another man or a woman loves another woman in the same way mommy and daddy love each other. He's all "well, that's nobody's business then. And why can't they get married? I mean, I wouldn't want to marry Bradlikin, because after 2 days he drives me crazy."

Our Amendment 3 was VERY poorly worded. Not only did it outlaw gay marriage, it would invalidate any form of domestic partnership, AND allow the state to decide who is eligible to marry. I see another round of "Loving vs. Virginia" happening, it was that poorly written.

If Amend.3 is that bad, then it'll be easy to take apart when contested in court. And no doubt it will be contested.

Man, I didn't even know what Loving vs. VA was until I had to look it up for an essay on being a mongrel. It's amazing how far we come and how far we don't come all at once. :) KC

You are raising beautiful, smart, compassionate kids. With any luck you can gently nudge them towards choosing to go for law degrees and they'll be on the front lines rolling back the idiot laws. I get the feeling the States will be needing a lot of dedicated civil rights/constitutional lawyers soon.

Re: Amendment 3, any chance it can be overturned on legal grounds because of the sloppy drafting? Since overturning it on the grounds of what's right would clearly be impossible.

P.S. I bet Mudd's feeling a little silly right now about signing that petition for an amendment that those little old ladies in the school gym were pushing all those months ago.

I think Bunny wants to be a teacher. (She's already a slasher, which amazes me. She's of the "I want to see them smooch" level rather than "get nekkid")

Obi, he has no idea. He's brilliant but scatterbrained. Creative, funny and sweet.

I'll see if I can figure out what to do with Amendment 3. Hey, Mississippi passed theirs 6 to 1. I feel a little better.

Mudd is of the opinions "I got it out there so it wouldn't be quietly passed in back rooms. I voted against it. It will be overturned because it is badly written." I can see his point. (of course, he's an intellectual and an optimist)
