The Gruntle Hunt

Things that made me smile before 8 AM.

1) The warm weight of Dollface curling up in my lap, just needing her mommy.

2) The way the two oldest bounced right out of bed! Alarm clocks were the key. That was $14 well spent.

3) Jonner put his socks and shoes on all by himself.

4) Sienn jumped into the "Luke vs. Obi" debate. As a fan, Sienn is the love-child of [livejournal.com profile] jkb and myself for her tastes.

5) Dollface flapping her hands and saying "fly fly fly!" as Jonner picked her up (a whole 3 inches off the floor).

6) The tulip trees on campus are in bloom.

7) The bradford pears are in bloom as well.

8) The beautiful black girl with the natural wearing a gorgeous peach sundress and sandals on Crump. She was walking along like it was mid-summer (instead of grey March) and she hadn't a care in the world.

9) Free books! Including Instruments of Torture, a must-have for my reference shelf.

It's weighing on me, folks. I've had that "brink of tears" feeling all day. I burst into tears over Monsters, Inc. last night. (Dollface insists she is Boo. She kinda looks like Boo)

Hang in there. I'm going to blast a lot of music and work with my hands, assiduously avoiding the telly.

Time to put my garden in anyway.

Where has Sienn jumped into the Luke versus Obi debate? Now I'm going to say something potentially very divisive, but since this is an LJ and not a public list, I hope that any Obi or Ewan fans who wander by will just ignore it. Personally, I just don't *get* the Luke versus Obi thing, or the Luke versus Anakin thing. I don't mean because I'm so wonderfully open-minded that I can't see arguing about it. (Well, there is that; at least, I can't see getting really pissed *off* about it.) I just can't see how a couple of fairly non-descript characters like Obi-Wan and Anakin could compare to an unforgettable character like Luke. OK, I'm biased. No kidding. And I have a whole flock of heavily-armed sheep to back me up. *g* But also I just can't see that either of these newer characters has anywhere near as interesting an arc, or scenes to compare with Luke's incredibly touching and wrenching scenes. So if it just comes down to which one is better-looking, I'd call it a Ewan McGregor versus Mark Hamill debate; that at least would make more *sense* to me (well, though... I don't actually think Ewan McGregor is all that good-looking either; oh, well). To put it another way, Luke Skywalker has become an indelible fixture in American -- and world -- pop culture. Are people in general (outside of organized fandom) really all that aware of young Obi-Wan or of Anakin? Are these characters really hitting people's psyches that intensely? I doubt it. Oh, well, I know I'm rambling. I've had very little sleep. But to me, there's a huge difference in quality between the OT and the latest 2 movies, and there's also a huge difference in the power and presence of the characters. If it weren't for Luke Skywalker and the OT, I don't think many people would bother sitting through these newer movies. So it's hard for me to grasp debating anything about which is cooler, which is hotter, etc. Still, I'm curious to see what's going on, whereever it is.

actually...

We were just debating which one looked better in bondage.

Then we got into the Mark/Ewan debate, and the recs for Naked!Mark/Naked!Ewan movies.

And we were talking sexy voices, and chaining to pillars and fun with blue milk...

And if this keeps up it's a double feature, Black Magic Woman and The Pillow Book, at Chez Mudd tonight
