Yes, it's Silly Season again.

I'd like to think this video is hyperbole:

But taken with reports of polling place violence in the planning stages and this vid, which also exists in Spanish, I can no longer say they're exaggerating:

Your vote is your voice. USE IT.

And if you haven't filled out your census, do it.
If you aren't counted, you DON'T COUNT!

Can you give me a link to the rumors of polling place violence?

I sort of doubt that we have anything to worry about in Maplewood. Our polling place tends to the liberal, and is thoroughly integrated. However, if there are any plans that mention St. Louis County by name, I'd sort of like to mention them to the people I work for and see if they're taking them seriously.

I'm going to remind them to keep an eye on our polling place because of ongoing problems with (sigh) Democratic electioneers, so that might stave off problems, but it would be as well to be forearmed if anything worse is possible.

Americans for Prosperity is the group to watch. They're funded by the Koch brothers.

They tend to target African American districts.

It doesn't look as if they're very active in Missouri at the moment

which is a relief. They're keeping themselves busy in Illinois, which isn't. I think my polling place would be safe from their depredations, as it's perceived as working-class, and is still majority white, although I see all kinds of people at the polls, from a young woman with an Icelandic patronymic to Bosnians, Vietnamese, Koreans, all sorts of Hispanic surnames, African names, Italians, the once-ubiquitous Irish and Poles, and every skin color from very pale to very dark. Also a therapy cockatiel who rides on a motorcycle with his owner and who has been just as well-behaved as the many children who come in with their parents.

The only conceivable reason they'd come to our polling place is that we're the closest one to the Board of Election Commissioners itself. That's a double-edged sword, though, because it means I can get us deputies faster. Deputies, reinforcements, maybe even a judge, if need be, AND our polling place is right over the police station. ;)

I could imagine this organization trying to make trouble in the City or North County, but I doubt they'd get away with it for long. I don't think we're a high-profile enough target for them to waste their time on, either. Thank goodness.
