Homemade Cinnamon Rum Raisin ice cream

1) Heat 1/2 c. rum until hot but not boiling (spiced rum is good) and put 2/3 c. raisins in it. Let stand for an hour.

2) In another bowl, mix 1 TBSP cinnamon and 1 1/3 c. sugar.

3) Add 1 can of evaporated milk VERY SLOWLY, so that the cinnamon doesn't clump.

4) Add 2 more cans of evaporated milk.

5) Add 3 cups of milk

6) Freeze in ice cream freezer until the consistancy of soft-serve.

7) Pour into empty 1 gallon freezer container, fold in rum and raisins.

8) Let ripen overnight in freezer.

1 cup, made with 2% milk, has 3 points.

A glass and a half of wine and I am singing-drunk

It's official. I'm Irish. I can only carry a tune when drunk.

And mushrooms sauteed in butter with a mix called "garlic and French herbs" are quite possibly the food of the gods.

Obi made his first batch of brownies. He forgot to put the butter in. They aren't bad, but they'd be better with butter in.

I figured it up. We spend approximately $2.10 per person per day on food at Chez Mudd.

This is a typical day of cereal with milk, a PB&J, chips and apple with chocolate milk, and Dirty rice with extra veggies and a side of broccoli.

That's $12.60/day, or $378/month. I don't think we do too badly.

Sometimes it's less (chicken leg quarters 19c/lb!) sometimes it's more.

Made latkes. Very good.
Kids like them with sour cream. Applesauce on them is a bit strange, but good.

We told the story of the Oil that Burned for Eight Days. Bunny wanted to know about a Menorah. I said maybe when everyone's a bit older.

We mark Hanukkah because of great-grandfather (6 times removed) Gingrich, a Jewish peddler who married into the family in the mid 19th century.

the Christmas afghan brought $75 on a raffle. I'm quite pleased.

Richard's cajun pasta bowls are great. The seafood fettucini is to die for.

Blue Bunny Cinnamon Ice Cream should be illegal. "Mr. Bunny, we find you guilty of causing major weight gain. Your sentence is to serve as a personal trainer for all these good people."

Leia talked to me a lot the last couple days.
Now to finish this sad story.
I think I can!

Deepfried candy bars are decadent. Basic funnel cake batter, with just a bit less liquid, make sure the whole bar is coated with no air bubbles. Deep fry very hot.
100 Grand, O Henry and 3 Musketeers are fabulous. the 100 Grand was the best IMO.

Basic funnel cake batter

recipe here )

Must go do laundry and have a bath.
Dishes can go in just before bed and wash overnight.

May i die yet?

3 dozen brownies.
12 peppermint spoons
12 white chocolate spoons
12 dark chocolate spoons
5 dozen chocolate pretzels
5 dozen white pretzels.

And i didn't get the afghan done and I did burn myself about a dozen times.

Must let the first batch of white pretzels harden before chilling second batch. Will package in the morning.

Obi's padawan, Bradlikin, is spending the night. I swapped Bunny for him. She's been baking with Fairy all evening.

I just want to go to bed.

From Erin at Mean Mommies:

Bake a chocolate cake from mix according to directions. When cakes are cool, slice in half across. Crush 4 or more skor bars. Mix up a 500 mL container of whipped cream and add cocoa and sugar til it tastes good. Then add 3/4 of the crushed skor bars. Dollop the cream/skor bar mixture in between the layers of cake, and add a layer of the goo to the top of the cake. Then sprinkle with the remaining skor bar crumbles.

Yummy!

How hard can cooking a turkey be?
The directions are right there on the bag!

So, they call me because they can't fing the neck or giblets. They find the neck, but it's frozen in. I gave up and said "Throw it in the over at 3 and we'll eat at 6." So when I get home, I get to take the turkey out and removed the (now-thawed) neck (and see if I can find the giblets).

Got inspired. Somehow it's a Vader, Padme & Leia scene that goes in an AU I'm writing. Interesting that the boys don't talk, but Vader will.

Fashed out

Not breathing sucks.
Allergies suck.
Having an allergy attack while making passionate love sucks beyond the telling of it.

TCM is having a Ray Harryhausen marathon. I am still in love with Sinbad. John Phillip Law (sans Barbarella wings, but with beard) can make me his harem girl any day... (And up against Tom Baker. And Patrick Traughton was in Eye of the Toger Dr. Who AU!)

Tonight: Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans.

$124 worth of groceries. I went insane and bought a whole brisket. It's as long as my arm! Also got a huge watermelon for Fri. We always have watermelon on the 4th. For the first time in years, we'll have grilled burgers too. (got a new grill) Turkey tomorrow if it's thawed. or maybe I'll just do BBQ briskit in the crockpot.

Need to find a reel mower. I can't stand power mowers. They scare the hell out of me. Have since I was a kid and shared a hospital room with a little girl who'd gotten run over by a mower. I can't remember her face or name, just the look of the casts on her legs and the missing toes. Ever since I've had horrors about mowers. I only started allowing Bunny out when I mowed in the last year. But living in Suburbia carries responsibilities, and I must mow the lawn. (Hubby has bad hay-fever, and mowing requires 2 benedryl, which knock him on his butt for a day and night)

The chocolate caramel creme savers are better in the soft. The hard kind taste a bit burnt.

Can't seem to write much. Need to ink the pic for Irene so I can scan it on Mon.

There is nothing more delightful than having a whole day spread in front of you with no one else to take care of for a whole 9 hours.

I had a lovely day yesterday, cranking my tunes and baking, cleaning while I watched "24."

Delivered 4 dozen pastel easter egg cookies to daycare.

Today, I was sick. I slept most of it off and got up at 11.

Just finished boiling the eggs to be dyed. Bunny and I went shopping with her birthday money. She got 3 pr of pants and a Matilda video. (She's a Roald Dahl fan.) She's still got about $55.

Started Luke's hair today. I'm almost to his nose. I'm embroidering the facial features (except eyes). He's cooking along nicely. Still working with 4 colors. Long swaths of black have been replaced with long swaths of buff.

Talked to mum. She was dying eggs with other grandchildren. Seems to be doing better. She's hating the sugar-free diet, but finds she can live with it.

Chili Cheese Pringles ROCK! Go, buy. Encourage the company to make them permanent.

Dentist Monday. Urgh.

Must make jello eggs this weekend. Bought lots of jello.

On a cold grim day, there is nothing nicer than a thick stew with fresh hot biscuits.

And I got "Sources of Power" edited and off.
Can't wait to see the illo for that one. Hope they do a caged Luke illo.

Yesterday, I crawled into bed at 3 AM. I was up agains at 7, ready to go to Wal-Mart and have a bake-sale. The girls made $65, which isn't bad. Their bank account stands at $265. They need $1200 more

Notes for next time:
1) Snickerdoodles sell! Make more giant snickerdoodles.
2) Angel food cupcakes don't move. Skip 'em.
3) Make Brownies and rice-krispy treats
4) muffins are iffy
5) Monster cookies are too finicky. Skip 'em.
6) beat the egg whites to stiff peaks BEFORE adding the sugar on nighty-nights, or they turned into burned egg-white goo with chocolate chips in. the fact they are baked on foil is their only saving grace.

Try Gingersnaps, chocolate crinkles and chocolate chips next year. Oh and big M&M cookies.
Maybe rolls.

Hubby pissy as couldn't find TV clicker.
On up side, got cute picture of Obi and Bradlikin snuggled asleep on the couch.

After the bake-sale, we had play practice. Bunny is much happier with her part now. Soldier One has actual lines, and is a bit bossy. She also has a solo dance routine, which is way cool.
Obi wants to be a pull-toy chicken.

Our TV gave up the ghost. We have a new one. Very nice.

I have a nightmarishly messy kitchen to face, and I have slacked on my exchange items.
I have to get those made today: 1-2 7 inch squares, 2 Victorian Rose squares, and the cross-stitched lady.

I'm going to start a load of laundry, get dressed, makes some breakfast and get my Victorian yarn (claret, dk. sage and aran) and go to making roses while watching SV or Sentinel or Buffy.

I spent last night in a pain-fogged, exhaustion haze. I need to see if my revisions make any sense at all or if I need to give up writing when i'm tired. 11 hours sleep and a nice hot soak worked wonders on my disposition.

I lead a busy life, but not an interesting one.

I am the Trivial Pursuit Champ of the Library staff. Go me.

Fairy and Bradlikin Skywalker are Over. Obi-Wan Chrisobi is most pleased at the company of his padawan. Bunny and Fairy are busy baking for their bakesale.

The apple-cinnamon muffins are in, and Bunny is making Monster Cookies while Fairy works on snickerdoodles. Reminded Bunny to unwrap the sticks of butter before adding them.

The Jedi are either defending or terrorizing the Littles, I'm not sure which. Thomas O'Leary has decided discretion is the better part, and is hiding in my room, purring grumpily.

Up early to go to Wal-Mart and sell stuff. Wheee!.

Mmm, the muffins smell good.
